Former Head of West Rote Sub-district: The Beach Behind PT Bo’a Development is Not Suitable for Seaweed Cultivation Perbesar

Rote Ndao,Sulutnews.com – Former Head of West Rote Sub-district, Jermias Kotta, explained geographically that the coastal area behind PT Bo’a Development, Bo’a Village, is not suitable to be used as a seaweed cultivation site. This is due to the high sea wave conditions in the region.

In his statement, Jermias explained that the demands of some people who want to take advantage of the area behind PT Bo’a Development for fishing activities or seaweed cultivation need to be objectively reviewed by paying attention to local natural conditions.

“Bo’a Beach, both in front and behind, is not a strategic place for seaweed to stand. Because the waves are big there. If the seaweed is tied, when the waves come, it will be destroyed and washed away,” Jermias told reporters on Monday, November 3, 2025.

He added that during his seven years as head of the sub-district in the region, he understood well the geographical characteristics of Bo’a Beach. According to him, the ideal location for fishing activities is actually in the eastern part of the region.

“If fishing, it’s not the port there. The safe port is in the eastern part, down to the beach where the waves are calm. That’s a good place for fishermen,” he explained.

Jermias also assessed that in every public demand, the main interests need to be considered first. If the road access requested by the community is related to the activities of small fishermen, then according to him, there is no need to make a large road like for motorized vehicles.

“If it’s only for spearfishing or transporting small catches, a footpath is enough. But if it’s for large activities such as transporting seaweed with vehicles, then a wider road can be considered,” he added.

He emphasized the importance of an approach based on data and facts on the ground so that policies or claims by the community regarding the coastal area of Bo’a Village do not cause misinterpretation between public interests and the boundaries of the investment area.
